The reference above to the Albion being "completely fireproof" is in response to people's fears after the fires of 1917 and
1928.  
The Albion's "modernistic furnishings" included murals and fixtures from the 1939-1940 World's Fair.  The Rainbow Room at the
Albion Hotel truly was the most popular night spot of the time, attracting top-notch talent such as Liberace.
The Albion Hotel closed for business in the late 80s.  There was interest in restoring and reopening the Albion, but the
elevators and hallways were too narrow to meet modern building codes.  It was demolished some time in late 2001 or very
early 2002.  The photos below were taken October 2001.
